Values

Audiences: We support the crafting and delivery of messages and strategies based on audience participation and research to promote the health of individuals and communities.

Disciplined Creativity: We pursue creativity with a purpose: using creative approaches that take into account the scientific and political realities of a public health issue AND that are mindful of the realities experienced by the audiences we are trying to reach.

Diversity: We embrace the diversity of all the disciplines and peoples that develop, shape, and deliver communications around health to improve public health and medical outcomes and celebrate the creativity inherent and possible in each.

Empirical Evidence: We support the application of scientific principles to the design, implementation, and evaluation of health communication programs.  We are committed to using what is currently known AND to adding to the knowledge-base of the many disciplines involved with health communication.

Ethics: We believe in instilling in our members a commitment to the highest levels of ethical standards and professional integrity.

Excellence: We are dedicated to the highest level of scientific and programmatic excellence that contributes to increasing the quality of communication in the public health arena.

Learning: We strive to create optimal opportunities for learning from many constituencies and each other.
